What is ZCash and how does it work?

What is Zcash? Zcash is a privacy-focused, blockchain-based payments network that uses zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs) to shield transactions, making the contents of a transaction private even on a public blockchain. Born out of the Zerocash protocol, Zcash forked from the Bitcoin blockchain in 2016.

What is the difference between ZCash and Bitcoin?

Bitcoin uses the hashing algorithm SHA-256. 4 ZCash uses Equihash, which is incompatible with hardware and software designed for Bitcoin mining. It also has larger blocks and increased hashing times, which increases the network's hash rate.

What is selective disclosure in Zcash?

Selective disclosure features within Zcash allow a user to share some transaction details, for purposes of compliance or audit. Zcash also allows for transparent transactions, which are completely interoperable with shielded addresses.

Does Zcash support transaction expiration?

Zcash supports transaction expiration to minimize the impact of a non-mined transaction. By default, a transaction will expire and funds unencumbered if the transaction is not mined after 50 minutes (40 blocks). Zcash supports transactions that require multiple signatures.
